Mountain Bike Trail

There has been a great interest expressed for expanded mountain biking within Ohiopyle State Park and the Laurel Highlands Region. Along with opening some of the existing trails to mountain biking, some new trail development has occurred. With the help of the American Hiking Society, McCune Trail is now a 3 mile loop. FOO helped in the creation of a new extension from the back of the Pressley Ridge Trail to Lytle Road allowing for greater riding/hiking options. A new trail to the top of Sugarloaf Knob in memory of Kim Oriole will be built this year.

With all this progress, a lot of rehabilitation work is still needed on our existing trail system. Anyone interested in trail building should contact FOO or the park for opportunities.

Funders are also needed for a potential "Ridgeback Trail System" in the Laurel Highlands. Possible routes are currently being flagged starting at Ohiopyle. Estimates for contracted trail building are roughly $30,000 a mile. For more information contact the park or the Pennsylvania Environmental Council.
